Urban Bistro in Dallas

If you are looking for a fabulous Mediterranean restaurant then look no further than Urban Bistro Dallas. The Restaurant has had many great reviews and is said to be somewhere which you can unwind and relax whilst enjoying high quality Mediterranean cuisine. This page has a small guide of what to eat and what the bistro has to offer you.

Urban Bistro was established in 2007 by two brothers who wanted to bring something different to the Dallas food market and the local area has said to have benefited from having such a great bistro nearby. The food has been raved about by local newspapers and food magazines up and down the country, because they source their produce from nearby which also supports the local community.

How is Urban Bistro Decorated?

The bistro is decorated with warm colors such as terracotta and yellows with many green plants and which gives off a great Spanish vibe and adds to the Mediterranean feel. The windows have great wooden shutters on them which are slightly rustic and the lighting is very understated. It has also recently had air conditioning installed, thanks to a Denton Air Conditioning company. As a result, it is really cool even in the summer months. The chairs however were not as comfortable as I had imagined but the waitress did provide me with cushions to make the chair comfier. The bistro also has an outside patio which was beautiful in the Dallas heat, even though it was late afternoon. Parasols were also provided. 

What is the service like?

The service was excellent from start to finish. As the bistro is a family run business the approach is always friendly but also professional. We were offered complimentary olives, warm bread and balsamic vinegar when sitting down. When we arrived the waitress took our coats and immediately asked which drinks we would like and where we would like to sit.  After the food was ordered the service ran like clockwork and each course had a five to ten minute gap, which meant we did not have to wait long periods of time for our meals. The waitress was very accommodating and made sure that we were all comfortable and had everything which we needed. She also did table checks at appropriate times and was very accommodating.

What was the food like?

I ordered Figs with goats cheese and honey to begin, which was full of flavor. The products were sourced locally and definitely added to the great dinning experience.
For mains I ordered the vegetable tartlet wit caramelized onions. The lamb was incredibly succulent and melted away from the bone. I would highly recommend this dish for any meat eater. The vegetables were seasoned perfectly and just added body to the dish. 

The dessert however was not as fabulous as the other courses. The cheese board looked excellent as my partner had this and had a wide variety of local cheeses to choose from. I ordered the Chocolate pudding with gelato. The gelato was gorgeous, rich and creamy but the chocolate pudding was a large portion and could have easily been shared. The chocolate was infact dark chocolate which was not stated on the menu and left a very bitter taste. Adding some lemon or a citrus fruit with the dessert would have balanced out the flavors.

How hygienic was the Bistro?

The bistro was very clean inside and out, with green bushes on either side of the door. The bathroom was moderately clean but could have had more toilet roll as there was a limited supply. The bathroom did need modernising and could be laid out better as it was slightly cramped. Other than that the hygiene was up to scratch.

Was the bistro good value for money?

It was $30 for a set menu which also included a drink, either alcoholic or non alcoholic. I would have definitely paid more for such a great dining experience.
